Does life justify Life?
Pascal writes that man endures "the miseries of a dethroned monarch". He asks, "What can this incessant craving, and this impotence of attainment mean, unless there was once a happiness belonging to man, of which only the faintest traces remain, in that void which he attempts to fill with everything with in his reach".
Was there something more to life than what we know?
Bruce Milne states that "tragically humanity failed to fulfill its calling as God's vice regents. Instead we have tumbled down to the dust from which we were taken and groveled on the earth instead of reaching to the skies."
Do we have something more to look forward to, than a slow ride in a long black hearse.
Hebrews 11:16 reminds us that the ancients sought more than what is seen only in this life.
Speaking of Abraham
"But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a heavenly city for them."
Jesus said in John 14 "There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you.
Colossians 3:1 "Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God"
The answer to the question at the top of the page, for a very small number of people may be yes, I am content with life as it is what ever my lot. But for the vast majority of us we long for something more and yet just about the time we think we've got it, it vanishes like a breath on a cold day. With out the hope of an eternal future, why be born at all? This life has to much pain and suffering to be all that there is. Most would agree with that statement, but to few of us live with heaven as our focus. Our sights are set only on this life. I close with this thought from A.W. Tozer
The church is constantly being tempted to accept this world as her home... but if she is wise she will consider that she stands in the valley between the mountain peaks of eternity past and eternity to come. The past is gone forever and the present is passing as swift as the shadow on the sundial of Ahaz. Even if the earth should continue a million years not one of us could stay to enjoy it. We do well to think of the long tomorrow.
Because life does not justify living.
Eternity does.
