Why we wave flags and banners at Lifepoint

I asked Leslie to write and article about Flags and Banners and why we choose to use them as an expression of our worship to the Lord at Lifepoint. God has given her a real vision for this ministry to the Lord and Im thankful for it.

Worshipping with Flags, Banners, and Streamers

Using flags, banners, and streamers have been part of worship since earliest time. The worshippers led the Israelites in biblical times. Judah’s standard was first. A banner, flag or standard can be used to call the people to their position in the Army of the Lord. The Israelites raised standards to identify and to claim possession over a territory. Numbers 2 says they set their standard according to their armies. Song of Sol 6:4 states “ as awesome as an army with banners.” To our spiritual enemies it strikes terror in them as it symbolizes God’s rule in the region. It is a visual earthly representation of the impact we are having in the heavenlies, Eph 6:12.
We use the truth (the word of God) to break down strongholds, then the Lord’s standard is raised, and the enemy flees. It is a symbol of encouragement to our army and to those of us who will occupy the land.
The streamers are used to welcome the Holy Spirit and to change the atmosphere. They can be used to symbolize opening the heavens, and the breaking of bondages. The can represent the Holy Spirit settling on us as a flame of fire as seen in Acts.
Under the direction of the Lord, these tools can have any purpose He desires. They can be used to praise Him, to worship Him, to show our adoration to Him and to cause the enemy to flee and to proclaim victory. King David danced before the Lord vigorously, I use these tools to show Him how I feel about Him.
