The Holy Spirit and the Church

In Ken Boa's book "Conformed to His Image". He writes and I quote
"The church is not primarily an institution but a spiritual organism that must depend on personal and collective visitations of the Holy Spirit for its continued vitality. He quotes Jim Cymbala who argues that unless congregations persistently call upon the Lord, their store of spiritual power will dissipate with time. Without the Spirits unction, the divine Presence will not be evident in our worship and service"
As I read this it has reinforced my conviction that this Friday nights prayer meeting is of the utmost importance to the vitality of our Church. I believe that our prayer focus as of late out of Acts 4:23-31 is right on track as well. We desperately need to see God pour out on us with a fresh visitation of His Spirit. In both our individual lives and in the church corporate.
Ken Boa goes on to write that the church needs both the fire of the spirit and the light of the word. Power without sound teaching is vulnerable to shallowness and lack of discernment; Doctrine without the power is vulnerable to dryness and spiritual torpor. A balanced Spirit-filled spirituality seeks to unite the mind and the heart instead of setting them in opposition to one another.
Amen. God Bless
